First Finish of 2024!

Woohoo!  I have my first finish of the year!  I present to you Wings of Repose [retired chart] by Nene Thomas, charted by HAED.

I stitched it on 32ct., 1x1, half cross stitches.

My next project will take me back to Farewell to Anger also from HAED.  I’ll do a page on it and then see what comes next.

Happy Stitching!

Wings In Repose Update

Update:

Andrea asked:  "Are you on the bottom row of pages?"

I'm not.  The bottom row is partial pages, about 30 stitches high.  I'm on the row above that.

Hi All!

I finished another page on Mini Wings in Repose [retired] from HAED a few days ago.  I just forgot to post an update.  Here it is:

You can now definitely see that there's a swan involved!

I'm stitching this 1x1, half crosses on 32ct. evenweave.

Mini Wings In Repose update

Hi All!

A couple of days ago, I finished pages 5 & 6 on Mini Wings in Repose [retired].

Here's my progress pic:

I did 5 & 6 together because 6 was a partial page.  I'm now back on working on God Speed.

This & That + WIP update

Hey Everyone!

Happy 2017!  I hope everybody had a great holiday season!

I didn't get a cold, which is a minor miracle, so that is excellent.  I'm also another year older, not just due to the new year, but because I had my birthday (Dec. 27).

For Christmas, I got jewelry from Hubby and a 123stitch.com gift certificate from my Mom.  I haven't used the g.c. yet but I know at least some of what I'm going to get.  I bought this:

The pattern is called:  Rosarium and is by Chatelaine Designs.  I'd been searching for a US source for a different Chatelaine pattern and while I did find one, it was less expensive to buy it directly from the designer - even with the $ to  € exchange rate.  I would rather give my money to the designer any way, so I did.  The other up side to this was I had the pattern within minutes!

I'll be spending part of my 123stitch g.c. on some of the flosses and embellishments that I'll need for this pattern.  I'll be buying some other "stuff" as well so I won't be getting everything for Rosarium all at once.

Now for a WIP update!  The HAED FB page has another challenge going on right now (it started Jan. 1).  I've been working on Mini Wings in Repose (retired pattern) as my challenge piece when it meets the "requirements".  Well, this time it did so I worked on it.  I finished this challenge, which is to finish a page of 7300 or more stitches, on Saturday night.  Here's my progress:

I'm doing this 1x1 on 32ct. in half stitches.  This completes page 4 of the chart.  At the bottom right corner of what I've just stitched, you can see the swan's head starting to form.

Well, it's cold at my desk, so I'm going to go sit by the fire and possibly stitch.  I'm working on La Belle... again, apart from the short break on Mini Wings...

Happy Stitching!

Mini Wings In Repose Update

Ok, this post I nearly forgot to write.

I have an update on my Mini Wings in Repose (retired) from HAED.  I've finished the 2nd full page plus the 3rd partial page!

Here it is so far:

I'm doing this one in half stitches, 1x1 on 32ct. evenweave.

I don't know when I'll get back to it as it's not "officially" in my rotation yet.  I've used it as my project for the last 2 challenges hosted by the HAED FB page.

Now back to stitching on La Belle Dame...

La Belle Dame progress and more

Hello out there!

Back on Friday, I had a page finish on La Belle Dame Sans Merci!  That makes 22 pages done.

I also got a new-to-me camera.  It's not great but the price was right and my camera had completely died.  Now I don't have to borrow hubby's camera!

Also, it's not on my "official" finish it up list, but I finally got my ribbons from last year's fairs hung up.  The photo is at a weird angle because these are hung along the staircase wall.  The very top 2 rosettes and the bottom partial row of blue/purple ribbons are the ones from last year.

On the Official HAED FB group, there is a stitching challenge going on right now.  It involves parking...not my favorite thing.  However, I am making progress so that's a good thing.  This project is Mini Wings in Repose (retired).

More Progress and...a Page Finish!

In the last couple of days I've made progress on my challenge piece for the HAED FB page challenge.  Here is the last non-blurry progress photo:

...and here is the finished page:

I finished last night around 11.  That's a bit later than I normally stitch, but just had to finish the page.

Project details:
  • HAED Mini Wings in Repose (retired)
  • 32ct. white evenweave
  • 1 strand over 1 fabric thread
  • half stitches
Now I'll go back to my rotation which means I need to finish my page on PTP Floral ArrangementMini Wings in Repose will now get a slot in my rotation.

Some more colors!

Here are some progress pictures on my Mini Wings in Repose (retired).  This is from what I did this weekend.  These aren't after a single color this time.  Some of those photos came out blurry, plus there have been two colors that only had 1 and 2 stitches on the entire page..

3 Colors In...

Well, I finally finished the 3rd color on my HAED Challenge piece.  It took a bit longer than the first two for a couple of reasons.

  1. There was more of this color
  2. I had to deal with a pillow accident first
I'm guessing you're now wondering what constitutes a "pillow accident".  Trust me, it surprised me too!  Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos.

A couple of times a year, I wash my and hubby's pillows.  They are feather pillows so I always do it first thing in the morning to give them plenty of time to dry.  Hubby's pillow was exceptionally nasty so I let them both soak in the washer while the dryer was finishing up one of the blankets.

At this point, everything's fine.  The pillows are having a lovely soak and the rest of the bedding is all clean and back on the bed.  I restarted the washer and the pillows did a little shaking, rinsing and spinning.  Since the pillows tend to "hold on" to the water, I ran them through another spin cycle.  Apparently, that's where I went wrong.  They were dizzy enough already and hubby's decided to protest against such violent treatment and decided to split...literally!

When I opened the washer, my pillow was sitting there like "I told him not to do it!"  Hubby's pillow was plastered all around the wash tub.  It was this huge round mat of chicken feathers with bits of fabric thrown in!

I took out my poor traumatized pillow and threw it in the dryer.  Then I scraped hubby's pillow off the inside of the washing machine and dumped it on top of the dryer.  I finally found the pillow ticking plus the original pillow ticking (I'd re-covered it years ago).  It had split down the middle of the fabric - not at the seams, they were fine.

So before I could cross stitch on Wednesday night, I had to make a new pillow and stuff it with the pile of feathers.  They were still damp so thankfully, they didn't fly off everywhere.  I tried to get the "new" pillow completely dry in time for hubby to use it that night, but the feathers were having none of that.

Last night, I made sure the pillow was dry after sitting in the sun most of the day.  Then I had to make a pillow case for it 'cause it's not a standard sized pillow anymore.

So after all that, I was able to get some cross stitching in.  I finished the 3rd color and made a good start on the 4th.  Here's my progress after 3:

Two colors done - updated

Well, it's not much to see but it should be easier to see.  Here is my Mini Wings in Repose with 2 colors done:

This is 168 and 415 done.  Next color is 318.  Hmm, more gray...well at least it's not my hair that's gray!

Oh, some more details on this piece:

  • 32 count white evenweave
  • 1 strand over 1 thread
  • true half cross stitches (not needlepoint tent stitches)

UPDATE:

Keebles asked:

How is the coverage going on that?

After I finished the first color, I had the thought that I should really look at the coverage.  I pulled out my magnifier and took a gander.  I can't say definitively at this point, but I think it's going to be fine.  Until I get into really dark colors, I won't really be able to tell how good the coverage actually is.
